There are many locations across Japan that are in high demand as filming locations for video-related productions, but due to strict regulations and privacy laws, obtaining a permission to shoot in these locations can sometimes be difficult, if not impossible.
The good news for industry players is that with modern technology, there are other ways to get the job done.
digital reality place is a project that solves this problem by fully replicating locations with full 360° CGI. With the software, artists can freely set the time zone, angle and epoch of the location to bring their masterpiece to life.
The project is overseen by Geek Pictures and Visual Mantokyo, and currently features virtual versions of Shibuya Scramble Intersection and Ginza 4-chome intersection. In addition to this, there are plans to expand the project to include areas around Tokyo Station, Akihabara and Kyoto.
