How to Create a Target Wedding Registry

What’s the best part of getting married? If you answered “make an eternal commitment to the person I love most in the world”, sorry, but no. OK, just kidding, but there’s no denying that freebies are a nice perk too! Putting together a Target wedding registry is a great place to start. We all know Target has a ton of useful and stylish household products, and you can add items from other retailers to keep everything organized in one place.

It’s also important to figure out what to add to a wedding registry — and what you absolutely shouldn’t add. Sara Margulis, CEO and co-founder of Honeyfund, shed some light on this. “Couples shouldn’t add items for personal use, like fancy hair dryers or Botox treatments,” she explained. For a store registry, she recommends sticking to traditional items used to serve family and guests, “like a nice casserole dish or kitchen appliance.”

Target’s partnership with Honeyfund is also a great way to get help funding your honeymoon, the wedding itself, or a date after the wedding. Margulis simply recommends being specific about where the money is going. “For a honeymoon registry, be sure to list the individual costs of your trip so guests know how the money will be used,” she says. “For example $120 for a romantic dinner.”

Now, let’s get the ball rolling with the basics of setting up a Target wedding registry, then dive into some other benefits that can come with it.

How to Create a Target Wedding Registry

A girl can dream, okay?

Target

Creating a Target wedding registry is incredibly simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get started and customize it to your liking.

  1. Access the Target Marriage Registry page.
  2. Click the “Create Registry” button and log in to your existing target account or create a new one.
  3. Enter your name and your partner’s name and indicate if you would like them to be able to contribute to the registry. If so, you will need to provide their email address.
  4. Include the date of your wedding, whether domestic or international, and the city and state/country where it will take place.
  5. Provide an address for gifts to be shipped if they will not be given at the wedding.
  6. Choose whether you want your registry to be private or public.
    • A public registry allows loved ones to search for your registry on the Target website. It also allows Target to share information such as your name, email address, wedding date, etc. with their affiliates such as The Knot, Honeyfund and MyRegistry.
    • A private registry can always be shared directly with your loved ones.
    • You can change your selection for either at any time in your registry settings.
  7. Create a cute and memorable vanity URL. This will appear at the end of the link and make it easier to share with others.
    • You can also skip this and have Target generate a random URL. You can always create a custom one later if you don’t feel creative during the setup process.
  8. Your registry is now ready to start adding products!

Target has a helpful wedding registry checklist with suggestions for the kitchen, dining room, home decor, and more. You can also register products from other websites rather than creating multiple listings among retailers. They have a bookmark that you can add to your browser and use when browsing other websites.

Some retailers work easier than others, however. For example, adding a Walmart product appears normally, but for some reason Bed Bath and Beyond seems to be a bit glitchy at the time of this writing.

The register will automatically sort things into categories based on price, if it’s on offer, and items that can be picked up at the store that day (useful for procrastinators on your guest list). You can also edit all the items you added in the “My Registry” section. Be sure to add ratings or mark items as “most wanted”!

Have your eyes set on expensive products like a KitchenAid Professional 5 Quart Stand Mixer, but don’t want to look greedy? The Target Wedding Registry makes it easy for multiple people to contribute high-value items.

You will also be able to find out who bought what, if you sent a thank you note after the wedding and get free returns without looking for a receipt.

Good news: Target automatically adds gift card options to every wedding registry. If you want to make sure it’s there — or include gift card options from other retailers like Amazon or Walmart — you can use the Target Registry bookmark to add it.

Honeyfund offers a ton of gift cards for things like hotels, airlines, rideshares, and other businesses. You can also set up specific fundraisers, such as a honeymoon fund, a wedding fund, cooking classes, a date night, or a flexible general fund.

Does Target offer a discount on wedding registry items?

If you notice any lingering items on your registry after the wedding, Target offers a coupon to purchase them for 15% off. Psst: You can also add items to your registry after the fact and continue to use the coupon for them. It can be combined with other Target Circle offers, RedCard discounts and be used on gift cards (but only up to 10 of them). The coupon expires 6 months after the wedding date.

Of course, Target has a long list of products excluded from the discount, including Apple, Beats, various games, food items, and more. (you can read them all on the Target Wedding Registry FAQ page). There are still plenty of goodies to snag with the coupon, though.
